First impressions really count when you're selling your home. From your online photographs to impressing viewers the moment they walk through the door, there are some simple steps you can take that will help you show your property off in the best light.
Done right, they will maximise your chances of generating viewings and offers - and will ultimately help you secure the best price for your home.
Throughout your home
- Depersonalise, declutter and free the floor space
- Get everything clean and sparkling
- Open blinds fully and straighten curtains
- Ensure that all light bulbs are working and turn on all lights
- Straighten tables and chairs and arrange cushions attractively
Kitchen
- Clear worktops of all non-essential items
- Remove fridge magnets
- Remove washing-up liquid, tea towels, soaps and plugs
- Hide rubbish bins and pet food bowls if possible
- Adding a bowl of fresh fruit or a vase of flowers can do wonders!
Bathrooms
- Clear toothbrushes, soaps, razors, plugs and shampoos from showers and baths
- Remove bins, scales, bathmats and laundry baskets
- Keep towels to a minimum. Well-placed, colour-matched, fresh towels are great
- Close the toilet lid, remove the toilet brush and spare toilet rolls
- Adding candles, plants, or decorative items adds some interest
Bedrooms
- Clear all surfaces of clothes, shoes and laundry
- Remove loose items such as jewellery from bedside tables
- Clear and tidy under the bed
- Ensure the bed sheets are smoothed down
- Remove any excess toys from children鈥檚 rooms
Reception and dining rooms
- Clear all children鈥檚 toys, remote controls and excess books and magazines
- Clean fireplaces, open blinds/curtains and plump cushions
Outside spaces
- When it comes to taking external photographs of your property, our photographer
may ask you to move your vehicle(s) if possible, so no cars are on show - Move bins, garden hoses, toys, tools and bikes out of sight
- Shut all windows, open blinds and curtains evenly and open any security grilles
- If you have hedges or trees, please consider trimming them so they look their best
- Clean patios, mow grass, deadhead plants and remove any stray leaves
- If you have any patio furniture, it is a good idea to have on display too
Keep it neat and tidy
Once you鈥檝e set the stage for your viewings, it鈥檚 just a matter of making sure everything stays looking
its best and feeling welcoming for every viewing. A tidy, clean home is essential to make that all-important first impression.
